The UIA has joined the partnership proposal of the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights, for the launch a globally-oriented training programme for the promotion of defence rights and protection of fundamental human rights. The International Defence Counsel Training Programme is specifically designed for defence lawyers and jurists dealing with international crimes, including crimes of a transnational nature. The Programme has a range of components for international and national lawyers, covering topics relating to defence rights in international courts, as well as international investigations into transnational crimes such as money laundering, drug trafficking, and cybercrime.
The Programme has an outstanding Academia of world-renowned practitioners and jurists whose expertise, patronage and prestige ensure that this Programme is of the highest standards. Members of the Academic also serve as lecturers and academic advisers. Details on the Programme, its Academia and calendar of Training Courses can be found at the website:
Together with the UIA, other partners in the Programme are the Association Internationale de Droit Pénal (AIDP), the International Criminal Justice Consortium (ICJC), and the Italian Scuola Superiore dell’Avvocatura (SSA) that has recognised continuing legal education (CLE) credits to courses of the Programme. Other national Bars and Law Societies are in the course of being contacted by the Siracusa Institute to this extent, since the Programme foresees the possibility for Lawyers to submit a petition for CLE credits.
