ROTTERDAM BAR ASSOCIATION, FRENCH NATIONAL BAR COUNCIL AND LAWYERS WITHOUT BORDERS VISIT ISTANBUL BAR ASSOCIATION

resident of Rotterdam Bar Association Peter Hanenberg along with a delegation, as well as the representatives from the French National Bar Council (CNB) and Lawyers Without Borders paid a visit to Istanbul Bar Association to meet with the President of Istanbul Bar Association Atty. Mehmet Durakoğlu at 15.00 on July 16, 2019.  The meeting was also attended by the Board Members of Istanbul Bar Association Atty. Sinan Naipoğlu and Atty. Dr. Ayça Özok Ener.

The meeting has served as an opportunity to discuss the challenges of the legal profession and problems encountered in right to defense.  The rule of law, independence of the judiciary in Turkey and Turkey-EU relations were among the topics discussed. President Durakoğlu underlined the importance of the support from the European countries in order for Chapters 23, 24 to be opened up within the scope of the EU negotiations.

Being a fruitful ground for the cooperation between Rotterdam and Istanbul Bar Associations, the meeting was finalized with the thanks address of President Durakoğlu during which he honored President Hanenberg with a Thanks Plaque. President Hanenberg kindly presented a book concerning the reconstruction of Rotterdam in the aftermath of World War II to President Durakoğlu.
