REPRESENTATIVES FROM GEORGIA ACARA LAWYERS ASSOCIATION VISITS ISTANBUL BAR ASSOCIATION

Lela Bzahalava, representative of Georgia Acara Lawyers Association, together with a delegation of jurists from Georgia, paid a courtesy visit to Istanbul Bar Association at 15.00 on Friday, April 12, 2019. The delegation was welcomed by Atty. Nazan Moroğlu, Vice-President of Istanbul Bar Association, Atty. Muazzez Yılmaz, Treasurer of Istanbul Bar Association and Atty. Cengiz Yaka, Secretary-General of Istanbul Bar Association. The meeting was also attended by Atty. Sezen Gönenç, Chair of Şota Rustavelli Culture Center, Orhan Beridze, Vice-Chair of the Center, Atty. İbrahim Ozan, Istanbul Bar Association Delegate to UTBA (Union of Turkish Bar Associations), Etty. Erden Aydın and Trainee Lawyer Zeynep Şengün.

Vice-President Moroğlu underlined the struggle of Istanbul Bar Association and lawyers for the rule of law, independence and impartiality of the judiciary in Turkey. Referring to a quote by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk that is “Societies leaving women behind are doomed to fall behind”, Moroğlu rendered information about the activities of Istanbul Bar Association about in the field of women’s rights.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss legal education, attorneyship training, vocational training, legal aid and mandatory mediation both in Turkey and Georgia on a comparative basis.
