INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON THE RIGHT TO A FAIR TRIAL

The Istanbul Bar Association is putting the right to a fair trial and the right of defense, one of the most fundamental issues of the justice system, under the spotlight. The International Symposium on the Right to a Fair Trial and the Right of Defense to be held on April 3, 4 and 5 will bring together numerous lawyers, academics and practitioners from Turkey and abroad in Istanbul.
During the three day symposium, not only theoretical discussions but also practical challenges will be addressed comprehensively. Starting from the normative foundations of the right to a fair trial, guarantees and restrictions during the investigation and prosecution phases, as well as international oversight mechanisms, will be discussed in detail. Notably, the limits of the right of defense and its role in socio political cases are among the highlights of the program.
Opening on April 3, Critical Debates on April 4: The symposium kicks off with opening speeches on Friday, April 3. On Saturday, April 4, the right to a fair trial will be analyzed in depth across all stages of proceedings. Participants will be active contributors through forums and interactive sessions.
April 5: Emphasis on Professional Memory and Solidarity: The final day holds special significance. On Sunday, April 5, events will be held to mark Lawyers' Day and the anniversary of the Istanbul Bar Association’s foundation. Professional solidarity, bar memory and the public role of the legal profession will be highlighted. The program includes a press statement, a memorial ceremony and a wreath laying ceremony.
